Windows explorer view settings

Has any other Windows XP user had their file explorer stubbornly refuse to remember their custom folder settings and revert to pretty “icon” view instead? One thing which has bugged me was that even when I change my current folder view to “details” and then click on the “apply to all folders” button, Windows XP still continues to open some folders in “icons” view.
Well, I finally found out why.
If you check “remember each folder’s view setting”, every time you open a folder whose settings have never been set, you’ll get the default “icons” view. Instead, change the view to your liking, uncheck “remember each folder’s view settings” and press the “apply to all folders” button:

This will assign your chosen view, whether it’s “thumbnails”, “tiles”, “icons”, “list” or “details”, for all folders.
Is it just my lack of linguistic comprehension or does anyone else think that the little “remember each folder’s view setting” checkbox is badly worded? I can’t think of a verbose alternative but if you have it checked, it effectively negates the entire purpose of the “apply to all folders” button.
Am I alone in thinking that the checkbox caption is misleading? Apparently not.

Thank you for figuring this out! I totally agree with you, I was getting really frustrated with having to constantly reset the View menu to Details rather than Icons. I agree that "remember each folder's settings" doesn't mean much in regard to setting the View option. However, you did the work, so you not only get the credit, but get to help others as well. Thanks again, great work!
