What do Dimmeys sell?

Friday, 21 December 2007

This is what happens when you get your website builders to make your brand new website and they forget to change the content meta tags:

Dimmeys broken meta tags

Googling for “dimmeys” returns the homepage of Dimmeys and Forges, the super-discount kings of Melbourne retailing. But instead of something meaningful like “the place you’ll find wanted products at the craziest bargain prices”, Google shows us “the dynamic portal engine and content management system” as the website title.

Not very relevant now, is it? This is why:

<meta name="description" content="Joomla - the dynamic portal engine and content management system" />
<meta name="keywords" content="Joomla, joomla" />
<meta name="Generator" content="Joomla! - Copyright (C) 2005 - 2006 Open Source Matters. All rights reserved." />

The folks who built their website left the above three meta tags in default mode, which sadly promotes the Joomla CMS, instead of Dimmeys.

The first one is the important one because almost all the search engines will use it as the site description, as is clearly evident from the screendump above.
