“Our Dale” gets gold but loses some respect

Monday, 6 March 2006

It now appears that Dale Begg-Smith is quite a bit more than the “spam man” he was initially labelled by some sections of the media. According to this article from The Age, it seems that a number of people have been busy trying to uncover Dale’s shady business practices.

When “Our Dale” won his event at the Torino Games a few weeks ago, the Australian media initially dubbed him as the “internet millionaire who got gold”. What they didn’t seem to know at the time was that “Our Dale” apparently made millions of dollars at the expense of millions of computer users that suffered from the technology his spyware company (AdsCPM) was peddling.

While his website now appears to have been pulled down, the Internet Archive reveals Dale’s shonky dealings over the last five years:

Welcome to Adscpm.com. Ranked top 500 on alexa.com, we are one of the highest traffic advertising agencies on the web. Our download partner does 100,000 software downloads a day. Adscpm.com does 20,000,000 pops a day.

Steve Shubitz, who runs stopscum.com and considers “Our Dale” to be “a spyware low life criminal”, suggests the gold medallist should not only promptly return his shiny prize for coming first, but he should also return his millions and the Lamborghini to the Canadian authorities.

The way this story is unravelling, I can see us Australians doing what we did to Tom Cruise a few years back, after he dumped Nicole Kidman.

We disowned him because he’s not fair dinkim.
